The Department of History, SJRCW B.A. program, was instituted in the year 1990. The Department of History has distinguished itself as a frontline History Department for the study of cultural interaction. Provide facilities for study and research in the social, economic and cultural history of India and the world. Teaching and research in the department are focused on the different aspects of Indian history, ancient, medieval and modern. Historiography, Theory and Practice of Historical Writing, History of Science, Technology, Environment and Medicine, Archaeology, Epigraphy, Numismatics and Global History are foremost among the thrust areas of study. The curriculum makes it possible for students to have comprehensive as well as in depth knowledge in history so as to enable them to clear competitive examinations like UGC NET and Civil Service Examinations and take up administrative, teaching and research careers with confidence in future.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The classroom lectures are highly interactive, motivating active participation by the students. This is further augmented by frequent assignments, seminars and tests to constantly monitor progress.
- A practical approach to the learning process is also created by organizing excursions to places of historical interest. Documentary films reflecting Art and Architecture of India are shown. Project Work on Karnataka Tourism is also given.
- The Department provides personal counseling under Mentor Scheme.
- Activities like Map Marking, Patriotic Song Competition, Personality Sketch, Interclass Written Quiz Competition are conducted regularly.
- Students are motivated to contribute articles to the Newsletter of Social Science forum -"Sambandh".
